The Guild has compiled this list of external programs to help members find financial, food, and wellness support. Although we hope this list proves helpful, the WGA is not responsible for any of these initiatives nor liable for any outcomes.
Affordable Connectivity Program
The Affordable Connectivity Program is an FCC benefit program that helps ensure that households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare and more.
CalFresh/Snap
CalFresh is for people with low-income who meet federal income eligibility rules and want to add to their budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table.
California Women, Infants, & Children (WIC)
No one should go to bed hungry. If you need help, the WIC Program is working hard to support you and families with young children. We not only want to bring you food, we want to bring you hope. Better days are coming. Until they do, we’ve got your back.
Entertainment Community Fund
Emergency financial assistance is available for people who are unable to pay their immediate basic living expenses such as housing, food, utility bills or health care.
Entertainment Community Fund Eviction and Tenants Rights Workshop
The ECF will offer this workshop on Eviction and Tenants Rights on Wednesday, October 11 and again the first week of November. Learn what to do if you receive a three-day pay or quit notice and how to navigate an eviction action. Receive resources and essential steps to take if you can’t pay rent.
Entertainment Health Insurance Solutions (EHIS)
A joint program of the Entertainment Community Fund and MPTF, EHIS offers California residents in the entertainment and performing arts community personalized counseling and enrollment support to ensure you understand and purchase the best plan to fit your individual and family needs.
Humanitas
Humanitas Groceries for Writers project is now accepting requests for additional support from WGA writers, even if they have already received a grocery card.
Inevitable Foundation
The Relief Fund provides an emergency backstop to ensure talented creatives aren’t forced to leave the industry due to financial necessity during crises such as the current work stoppage.
LA County Webinar: Resources for Workers and Businesses Impacted by the Entertainment Strikes
Watch this webinar from the LA County Department of Economic Development and the LA County Film Office DEO and our LA County Film Office for workers and businesses impacted by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. The webinar featured resources and technical assistance offered by various County departments and partners to all workers and businesses financially impacted by the strikes.
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
Locate one of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank partners to find a food pantry near you, or connect to other resources for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
LIHEAP is a federally funded energy assistance program that may help you pay your utility bill if you're income-qualified. Funds pledged to assist customers of SoCalGas® are distributed through local community-based organizations, assistance agencies, and certain government agencies.
Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF)
MPTF offers a variety of services that can provide emotional and financial relief to industry members and their families during times of need. Whether the hardship is personal or the result of an entertainment industry-wide event.
Percentage of Income
The Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) helps you save more on your bill by capping monthly electric and gas charges at a set amount, plus taxes and fees. The four-year program begins in 2023 and is only available to a limited number of eligible CARE customers.
SAG-AFTRA Federal Credit Union Strike Loans
The SAG-AFTRA Federal Credit Union has financial assistance programs for existing credit union members facing financial hardship because of the strike. These programs include work disruption loans and loan payment deferral for Writers Guild members.
Student Debt Crisis Center (SDCC)
Representing over 2 million supporters SDCC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on how the student debt crisis impacts individual borrowers. They provide tools, repayment information, clinics, and other resources to help.
World Harvest LA
The World Harvest Food Bank is generously providing free groceries to anyone who comes in with a WGA card. You can leave their premises with as much free food as your cart will hold, fresh vegetables, bread, canned goods, fruits, etc.
